Nestled in the pines and gracing the southeastern shoreline of Lake Sam Rayburn is the Umphrey Family Pavilion which has become home to many fishing tournaments and events in the area.

The pavilion area consists of the large Umphrey Pavilion, the smaller Marshall Pavilion, restroom and concession facility, caretakers home and parking for approximately 200 vehicles. Located adjacent to the Pavilion is the public boat ramp with four launch lanes and parking for approximately 200 vehicles. A short distance away is the Twin Dikes park with four additional boat launch lanes and additional parking.

With the start of the 21st Century a group was formed that grew into the 501(c) non-profit Lake Sam Rayburn Pavilion Association with the goal of building an event center on the lake. Working with Jasper County a lease for approximately 12 acres was executed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and funding drive was started. A major contributor to the drive was Walter Umphrey, a former Texas Park and Wildlife Commission member and lawyer from the Beaumont area. With funding secured the construction of the pavilion was completed in 2004 and the pavilion complex as well as the main pavilion was named in Walter’s honor. The second smaller pavilion was named in honor of Bill Marshall for his efforts in establishing the Association.

Besides fishing tournaments the pavilion is rentable for weddings, family or class reunions, and other events. Contact information is located to the right.

The pavilion operation is overseen by the Lake Sam Rayburn Pavilion Association Board of Directors who hire a caretaker to maintain the pavilion grounds.
